Your calendar is full, your brain is sprinting, and you’ve got no shortage of ideas but you still feel stuck. We’ve learned the hard way that more hustle doesn’t automatically create more clarity. Sometimes the most strategic move a faith-based entrepreneur can make is to get quiet long enough to hear God again.

Ken Jocelyn continues his 14 Frequencies of Proximity series with Frequency Two: stillness, the strategy frequency. We unpack why “vision comes cheap to a visionary,” how shiny object syndrome steals focus, and why every meaningful next level is tied to relationships and alignment. We also share the Create Conference “core five” framework (faith, health, relationships, business, finances) and why business growth without a stable foundation eventually costs you more than it pays.

Then we get practical. We walk through Psalm 46:10, the power of a weekly “46-10 moment,” and Habakkuk 2:2 as a simple action step: listen, then write the vision down and make it plain. Ken also shares a personal quiet-time insight from Luke 1 about Mary, Gabriel, fear, favor, and a sobering question that reframes suffering and purpose. You’ll leave with clear practices to try this week: phone off, pen and paper ready, replace one doom-scroll block, and bring one forced decision into stillness before you move.

If this helps you, subscribe, share it with another faith-based entrepreneur, and leave a review so more leaders can find the show.

Welcome And Series Setup

SPEAKER_00

Hey guys, welcome to another episode of As the Leader Grows. I am your host, Ken Jocelyn, and I am super excited that you're with us today as we continue this series from my new book, 14 Frequencies of Proximity. So if you have not or you were not able to listen to week number one in this series, let me give you a brief overview before we jump into frequency number two.

Proximity And The Key Fob Code

SPEAKER_00

So I wrote this entire book based off of a talk that I've been giving for the past three years. Proximity is a cheat code. How every time we go to the next level in our life, it's always tied to a relationship. And so as we were doing research, we discovered that a key fob, it's like I have a key fob for our pool and our subdivision. So I take that key fob, you know, you use that key fob, you get it near the card reader. All of a sudden it clicks, uh the door unlocks, you can open the gate and go enjoy the pool. Or as we're talking about in the book, the next level in your life or the place that you really want to be. And so what we discovered was in this key fob is what's called a 14-bit proxy code. And that's 14 different frequencies that when that when that key fob or that card that you have, when those 14 frequencies match the frequency reader inside of that car reader to card reader to the door, you'll hear a click or a buzz, the the lock unlatches, the door opens, and you get to go to the next level. So last week in frequency number one, we talked about faith being the foundation frequency.

Stillness Creates Strategy For Vision

SPEAKER_00

So also in faith, today I want to talk about stillness. Now, stillness is the strategy frequency. Stillness is the strategy frequency. Because a lot of us as entrepreneurs, I'll go back and share a quick story. Youth pastoring back in the say turn of the century, 96 to about 2001, we were in the process of building one of the most dynamic youth ministries in the country. We actually had one of the largest youth ministries in the Southeast, probably the largest youth ministry in the state of Georgia, and only a church of a less than a thousand. And we were having hundreds, several hundred kids come in every Wednesday night, just seeing God do some unbelievable things. One of the first facilities, we had a 7,200 square foot facility, sat about 350 to 400 students, and we would pack that building out. I mean, like literally no room, kids standing. We had a cafe, we had an outdoor area. This was one of the first youth facilities in the country. I think there was probably three or four at the time. And so as we're growing this youth ministry, this frequency here, the stillness frequency, because stillness is really where the strategy comes from. And guys, every time in my life where God has really spoken something into my heart, it's always come through stillness. So we're growing this youth ministry. One of our board members at our church, Andrew, was a dear friend, and he had taken me to lunch. He had mentored me through this whole process. And Andrew and I went to Longhorns one day. I'll never forget, we pulled back in the church parking lot and I was about to walk back into my building. And Andrew looked at me and he said, Ken, never forget that vision comes cheap to a visionary. Vision comes cheap to a visionary. Your responsibility as a visionary is to determine which vision and dream is coming from God and which one you're going to go after. Because you guys know, listen, if you're listening to this and you're a faith-based entrepreneur, you're an entrepreneur, any type of visionary, like God speaks to you, coming up with dreams and ideas, that's the easy part. What we need to do is position ourselves in order to be able to know that, okay, God, this is the dream that you put in my life. We know, according to Jeremiah, God knew us before he formed us in his mother's womb. We know that God desires Proverbs 29, 18, where there's no vision, people perish. And I'm my Ken Jocelyn version is where there is vision, people can flourish. So my heart for you today is as we walk through these 14 frequencies and gearing up for our book launch August the 19th, 20th, and 21st, as we gear up to all of this, super excited about the impact and influence that this book is going to have on the world. But today we're going to talk about the stillness frequency.

The Create Conference Core Five

SPEAKER_00

And so every year, if you've been to our Create conference, we host the largest faith-based entrepreneur conference in America. This past year, we sold almost 700 tickets to come to our conference. This year, our goal is between 1,000 to 1,200. I'm joined by some of the most amazing human beings on the planet. Over the past, we've done six conferences. Over the past uh five or six conferences that we've done, great friends like John Maxwell, Erwin McManus, my good friend Gary Breca, Horse Schultz, the former co-founder and CEO of the Ritz Carlton, um, Ed Milette, Brendan Breshard, Jen Gottlieb, my good friend Amberly Lago. I mean, just an amazing group of people, Ben Greenfield, as we get together for two and a half days, focused on becoming the best version of ourselves in what we call our core five areas: faith, health, relationships, business, and finances. And again, quick little tease on the core five. People go, Ken, why are we not talking about business and finances? Because I've learned, as you, I'm sure you have, if you've if you've been in entrepreneurship longer than 30 minutes, you've seen people who have focused specifically on their business or their finances, and they've grown a business and they've amassed some wealth or some resources. But the problem is their faith, health, and relationships are not in alignment. Therefore, they do not have a good foundation for God to build what God desires to build in their lives according to their business and their finances. And they wind up most of the time losing themselves or losing everything that they built because their foundation is unstable. So every time, guys, in my life, from growing one of the largest youth ministries to starting my own mortgage company to being one of the top mortgage brokers in the state of Georgia to 2019, finishing seventh out of 3,725 agents at virtual properties, top one half of 1%, to then bumping into and meeting a man named Grant Cardone and through that process, becoming one of Grant's top licensees. And then being at one of Grant's events in January of 2020, where I was speaking at 10X headquarters to his entire staff, about 180 people, plus all of the licensees that had gathered from around

A Calling Clarified In Stillness

SPEAKER_00

the world. Grant had me wrap up the two-day and literally, this is exactly what I'm talking about from that moment. And then God said to me in a moment of stillness, Ken, I want you to do what Grant's doing for faith-based entrepreneurs, because nothing like what we do, especially then, existed. Helping faith-based entrepreneurs become the best version of themselves. That's what create every year. If you've been there, you're going to love this and you know exactly what I'm talking about. I always have one of my good friends, uh, Jake Hamilton, one of my dear friends, one of my favorite worship leaders on the planet. Led worship this year. We open each of those core five areas: faith, health, relationships on the first day, business and finances on day two. We'll start with worship, two speakers in each area. We'll hit faith. I'll come up at the very end. I'll close us out with a talk on faith this year. I talked about faith being the foundation frequency. That was in last week's podcast about how God says faith is specific. And then as I'm standing there this year in front of hundreds and hundreds of faith-based entrepreneurs, I will give them a little, a little kind of state of the union, if you will, where I'll look throughout the crowd and I'll go, guys, this weekend, I'm going to ask you to do three things at the end of each of these core five framework

The 46-10 Moment Be Still

SPEAKER_00

areas. Number one, Jake's going to come up and lead worship. I want you to be still. And I know that's counterintuitive because as a faith-based entrepreneur, we want to go, go, go, grind, grind, grind, the hustle culture, all the stuff that we hear and that we see. Like I'm asking you to do one thing, and that's be still. And when I do that on that big LED panel wall behind me, they will put up, be still and know that I am God. And this is what I'll say. Guys, I'm going to ask you to be still number one. Number two, I'm going to ask you to listen to God. God speak to me in this specific area of my life. Number three, Habakkuk 2-2. I'll put it up on the screen. Write the vision down and make it plain. Guys, every time that my life has gone to the next level or God's been able to do something amazing through my life, it's always come from a moment of stillness. That's why this frequency, stillness, is the strategy frequency. Again, you don't need another vision. Our role as faith-based entrepreneurs is to determine which vision God has for us. Because, man, we can get shiny object syndrome really quick as entrepreneurs because we see all these things. And to be able to dream and to be able to think and to be able to ponder and go, ooh, what about this? Or what? That's easy for us. What we need is to get still before God. Psalms 46, 10. That is our foundation verse, foundational verse for this frequency. Be still and know that I am God. That word know is the same Hebrew word in Genesis chapter 4, verse 1, where Adam knew Eve. There's an intimacy there. God, I want to know you. Guys, one of my favorite moments at Create every year is we end each of these core five framework areas. We do this 46-10 moment. We do about seven to 10 minutes of worship. And I'll ask everybody, hey, stand to your feet. If you're comfortable, I want you to lift your hands. Jake's going to lead us in worship. I just want us to go after Jesus. I don't want you to think about your business. I don't want you thinking about your relationships. I don't want you to think about your money. I don't want you to think about any of those things. I simply want you to chase God. I just want you to worship him. And the best moment for me is watching them worship. And as God speaks, I want you to take a seat. I want you to grab your planner and your pen and I want you to write down what God is telling you. And so we'll do this in each of those core five areas. And the most beautiful thing, my favorite moment, then probably the most fulfilling is probably the best word to use in my life is watching faith-based entrepreneurs sit down after God's speaking and go, okay, here's what my faith journey needs to look like for the rest of the year. Here's what my health journey needs, here's what my relationships need to look like. And then fourth and fifth, here's what my business and here's what my finances need to look like. One of my mentors, Ron Luce, who used to run Acquire of the Fire, Ron was uh one of my first mentors, an amazing mentor to me. And I'll never forget when Ron said, Ken, he said it's better to aim for the moon and make it halfway than aim next door and make it. This is the one thing that I really loved about Grant and the whole 10X movement is whatever you're believing for, 10X it. Like get that thing so massive that when you look at it, it can be a little intimidating. And I tell our team this all the time. I tell the businesses that I coach, the leaders that we that I speak to around the country, guys, listen, if about every 60 to 90 days you don't look in the mirror and go, I don't know that I have what it takes to pull off what God's put in my heart, I would doubt that the vision that you have in your heart came from God. Because God's gonna ask you to do something that's absolutely miraculous. So as we talk about the stillness frequency, the Psalms 46, 10, the strategy frequency, I want to talk about and give you guys really some framework. What does that look like? And so here's what I'm gonna ask you to do every day. And I'm gonna share something with you super personal. This just happened this week with me. I was getting ready and I've gotten in, I've gotten into this, this really this groove in my quiet time with God. I'm 800 and some odd days in a row in my U-version app. And about a year and a half ago, year and three or four months ago, I was at our mastermind in Puerto Rico and God spoke to me in the middle of the night. He said, Ken, I want you to get in my word. And I'm like, God, I'm like three or four hundred days in a row in U-version. Like, I don't miss my quiet time. And God, I knew exactly what he, I knew exactly what he meant. God was like, No, I want you in my word. I want you, and this is my pastor's Bible from when I pastored for almost 13 years. This is my Bible that I preached out of when I planted and pastored life church and flowery branch. We grew that to several hundred people. And he goes, I want you in my word. So I made a commitment. Okay, God, when I do my quiet time, I'm gonna read a chapter a day. So this week, guys, and I'm gonna tell you when I talk about 46, 10 moments, I want you to understand the stillness aspect of this.

Mary And A Question At The Cross

SPEAKER_00

So this week I'm reading in Luke chapter one, and this is the story about Mary being visited by Gabriel, the archangel. Now, again, you know, when we see around, when we see around TV and all the media stuff, when we hear about angels, we think about these chubby little babies with little bow and arrows and they're sweet and they're just flying. No, no, no, no, no. No, angels, especially Gabriel, Michael, archangels, are warring creatures, massive, massive creatures. You're like, Ken, where are we going with stillness? I'm gonna get there. But I want to share this with you guys really quick. Luke chapter 1 in verse 29 and 30. Actually, I'm gonna back up to 28. Gabriel appeared to Mary, greetings, favored woman, the Lord is with you. And this is the listen to this next part. Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. Guys, if you read throughout scripture, Old Testament, all the way through the New Testament, anytime a human being came in contact with an angel, they were terrified. And Mary, absolutely the same. Here's a young woman. Theologians say she's about 13, 14, maybe 15 years old at this time. She's young. She's sitting there looking at this massive, warring angel. And she's she is, scripture is very clear, confused and disturbed. Mary tried to think of what the what this angel could mean. In verse 30, she said, Do not be afraid, Mary. The angel told her, for you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. And if you're watching this video or listening to this on the podcast, I'd go over to the video because I'm going to show you exactly what I read this this week. Guys, listen, I've been in ministry. I got gave my life to Christ in August 22nd, 1993. I've been doing full-time vocational ministry for 20 plus years. Uh, as a pastor full-time vocationally for over 13, almost 14 years. So I've read this scripture several times. I literally the other day sitting here in my studio, I wrote down in my Bible right here, and this was the thought that God gave me. Was Mary thinking this while she watched her son being crucified? Think about that. Think about that whole picture. Jesus giving his life and being crucified. And here's the his mother who was visited by one of was visited by Gabriel, the archangel, this massive warring creature. Do not be afraid, be of good cheer, for you have found favor with God. Could you imagine her thinking about that while Jesus is hanging on the cross about to breathe his last breath? And guys, when I talk about those 46-10 moments, this is exactly what I mean. Because we have to have those moments. The stillness, the stillness frequency, the strategy frequency, it all starts right here in God's Word. Because what we need is we need God to be able to speak to us. So let me give you some application for this before in our time.

Daily Practices To Choose Wisely

SPEAKER_00

I like to keep this to about 18 to 20 minutes. But application number one, I want you to build a 46-10 moment in your week. I would encourage you to do it at least five days a week, Monday through Friday. Great time. I'm going to tell you, this God has been speaking to me more lately on Sunday morning before my wife and I get ready to go to church. I'll get up and I go, I'm going to go in my studio and I'm going to spend about 15, 20 minutes with God. And I'll come in here and read scripture and God is just dropping bombs. I mean, just revealing things to me. But it comes from stillness. And if you want or need strategy for your life in any of those core five framework areas, guys, faith, healthy, relationship, business, or finances, what you need is you need stillness. You need to get still before God. So number one, build a 46-10 moment into your calendar this week. Phone off, no distractions, just you and Jesus. You're like, Ken, what if I have a problem with my brain going a million miles an hour? Well, that's that's great because I'm that guy. And so what I did, and Sean Lovejoy, one of my pastor coach, and mentors, for about 17 years, Sean taught me this when I was pastor of my church. We planted our church out of his church. Then he said, Ken, take a note card or an offering envelope or a connection card out of your church as you're in your auditorium and you're praying. Because I used to take my phone, and when I had my phone, I literally would take my phone and I would open it up and take notes. The problem with that is text messages, emails, and I would get distracted, squirrel, and I'd go do other things. Grab a piece of paper, grab a pen, and when when you have an idea, write it down, put it back in your pocket, keep praying. Keep searching for that still place in Christ. And when you do that, be still, listen to God, and write the vision down. Guys, I know this, and I say this every year at Create. I'm going to ask you to do this, and it's going to be counterintuitive. And I know I mentioned that earlier. I mentioned that a lot because it is counterintuitive as faith as faith-based entrepreneurs. We want to get up and we want to hit the ground running. Guys, if you're like me, I literally can come sit in our studio. We're about to open a 3,000 square foot office right here in Alpharetta, complete with a 1,200 square foot studio space. We can seat up to about 70 to 75 people in that studio. We'll be doing live events out of our studio here in the Alpharetta area. July the 17th is going to be our very first one. So soon we're going to be doing that. And I know we have so many things going on. And I've gotten to the point lately, and this is what I want to encourage you to do. I've gotten to the point lately where I'm like, God, I just want to spend time with you. I just, I want to spend time with you just to spend time with you more than spend time with you so you can speak to me and give me vision. One of the biggest traps as a pastor, and if you're listening to this and you're a pastor, you understand this. One of the biggest traps as a pastor is to spend time with God to get a message for Sunday. It's to spend time with God so He can give you exactly the dream and the roadmap and the vision for what he has for your church. Instead of spending time with God, just to love on God, just to worship, just to spend time with God. So number one, build that 46-10 moment into your calendar. Number two, before you say yes to the next opportunity, spend time with God and ask him, okay, God, is this an opportunity that you had for me? This year in Puerto Rico. Actually, my my next book that I'm doing, actually two books after this called Course Correct, is it literally based off of a talk I did at our Puerto Rico mastermind this year. The seven times that Jesus said no, and the four things he was protecting every time he said no. Because some of us we have, as as especially if you love God and you love people, it's hard sometimes for us to say no. But Jesus was very clear and he gave their seven specific times throughout the four gospels that Jesus said no. And there were four things that he was protecting. So before you say yes, ask God, is this something that you have for me? So here's another one right now. Replace one block a time. How many of you guys doom scroll on social media? I do it, everybody does it. But replace one of those moments, just one, one of those moments this week. If it's 15 minutes, 30 minutes, God, you know what? I'm gonna give up my time on social media for a couple days. I just want to spend time with you. That's the third thing. And then this write down one decision that you may have been forcing. What's a decision that I try have tried to force? Because, guys, as entrepreneurs, faith-based entrepreneurs, we're good at kicking doors in. God, if you don't open the door in the speed or timing I want it open, I'm just gonna put my foot through it. Guys, I'm guilty, guilty as charged right here. I can be one of the worst on the planet into doing this. Bring that thought or that moment or that decision into stillness before you move. So, recap it all in one line. Stillness is access to God and the strategy that He gives you before we experience breakthrough.
